Pairs anyone?

The pairs classes (in-hand and ridden) at the Southern Show are both open to entries on the day and we'll be delighted to find you a partner if you'd like to take part but haven't a pair.

There are special rosettes in the in-hand pairs for the best pair by the same sire and the best pair out of the same dam (rosettes kindly sponsored by Denise Bumford - many thanks Denise!). There are quite a few ponies entered this year who share a parent - check the catalogue to see if your pony has any relatives at the show and then ask at the Secretary's Tent and we'll introduce you.

We already have one black mare, approx 13.2'' with flowing mane and tail who would love a partner for the in-hand pairs - if your pony would like to do the in-hand pairs with her please let me know on mesgspringshow[at]fsmail.net

Special rosettes - sponsors needed

One of the great things about the Southern Show (at least if you like bright shiny rosettes) is that it is theoretically possible to go into at least one class and come out with five rosettes (special rosette for the first person to e-mail me and tell me which class and which rosettes).

These special rosettes all need sponsors, so now is your chance to get your name in the catalogue. Sponsorship opportunities are as follows:

In-hand pairs: special rosettes for best pair by same sire, and best pair out of same dam £5
Points awards rosettes £10
Highest placed non-black in ridden showing classes £15
Sashes for Show Champion and Reserve £20
Best turned out rosettes (for nearly all classes) £25

Please e-mail me at mesgspringshow[at]fsmail.net to claim your choice. We couldn't run the show without the generosity of our many sponsors, so thank you all!

Please return your trophies!

One of the great things about the Southern Show is that it is well endowed with trophies, and all you have to do is win almost any class and you can take home a trophy already engraved with lots of well-known Fell prefixes from years past which will then sit proudly on your mantlepiece for the next year, impressing your friends.

This means of course, that those of you who took home trophies last year need to remember to bring them back for this year's show, just in case you don't win them again! It's much safer to bring them back in person if possible, as this avoids any loss or damage in transit, so if you are coming to this year's Southern then please bring them with you, and hand them over to Bob & Sue McNamara in the trophy tent when you arrive.

If you are not coming to this year's show and you are holding trophies then please ensure that you return them before the show day, or give them to somebody who will be attending the show, with firm instructions to hand them over to Bob & Sue first thing! There may be somebody near you who is going to the show - e-mail me on mesgspringshow[at]fsmail.net if you'd like me to check. Don't forget to get your trophy engraved with your own pony's name before you give it back!

If you are not sure how best to return your trophy please contact Bob & Sue on 01566 783471 or 07596 997207 as soon as possible and they will be able to help. We do need all trophies back in time so that none of this year's winners are disappointed!

Pre-show meal

It's become something of a southern Fell tradition to have a pre-show meal before each of our big Fell shows, as people often have very long journeys to get to the show and so arrive the day before. The meal provides a good opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet new ones, and anybody who is coming to the Southern for the first time shouldn't feel shy about going to the meal - there'll be plenty of people happy to talk Fell ponies all night with you!

This year we are at the Chequers pub in Churchill, a village near to Ascott under Wychwood. The booking form is available to download on the homepage of this website. Spaces are limited so please return it with payment to Lucy Savage as soon as possible, and by Saturday 4th September at the latest.

We will try and organise lifts from Crown Farm to the pub for people with horseboxes - if you can help by offering a somebody a lift please let us know on your form, and if you need a lift, please say so.
